Through special arrangement with the instructors, a 1-day workshop on fan system operation and efficiency is available as part of a 3-day FSAT Qualified Specialists training and certification. You may register for the 1 day session alone (no cost, but registration required) or for the full 3-day certification course ($150).
1-day workshop. This 1-day workshop highlights the benefits of fan system optimization and examines fan system performance characteristics and practical issues concerning measurement data. Topics covered include benefits of fan system optimization, costs of fan operation, fan curves and system curves, fan system efficiency and types of fans, and identifying optimization opportunities.
3-day training Fan system professionals and energy consultants are invited to enroll in a 3-day intensive training session designed to help them become competent in using FSAT software to analyze industrial fan system optimization potential. Participants who pass a rigorous qualifying exam will be designated Qualified FSAT Specialists.
The FSAT software helps users do the following:
- Calculate how much energy a fan system is using
- Determine how efficiently a system is operating
- Quantify savings from upgrading a system.
During the class, participants will:
- Review the Fan System Optimization Checklist
- Review the appropriate use of instruments in taking fan system measurements
- Discuss what measurements need to be taken
- Develop a measurement plan
- Review how FSAT handles temperature and density
- Describe how to manage FSAT files when a result has been generated
- Work around limitations of FSAT when modeling fan systems
- Demonstrate their competence to use FSAT to prequalify good potential fan system optimization opportunities
- Describe how to measure fan system performance, and where to place measurement planes
- Analyze field data from a fan performance test.
Prerequisites. By special arrangement with the instructors, the 1-day prerequisite Fan System Assessment course will be covered on the first day of the training. No prerequisite is required.

About the instructors...
|Ron Wroblewski is a DOE Energy Expert proficient in industrial fan system optimization and regularly conducts energy assessments to help companies save energy and costs. He has over 30 years' experience helping customers design, analyze, specify and optimize commercial and industrial energy systems. Ron is a highly rated trainer who applies proven principles of adult education to make his technical seminars beneficial and fun. He is the senior DOE fan systems trainer, and provides industrial energy efficiency training worldwide for the United Nations.||Joe Brooks is Director of Certification Programs with over 20 years on the staff of the Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International, Inc, and is currently responsible for the AMCA Certified Ratings Program. He has designed and built several test facilities and his responsibilities include liaison with industry and creation of standards. Joe helped AMCA International develop the DOE's Fan System Assessment Tool (FSAT). He was one of the initial and currently one of three Qualified Specialist that provide FSAT training.|
